The 1920’s was a time in America when many industries began to take flight. Vibrant Los Angeles was no different, with a budding entertainment scene ready to take the world by storm. 100 years later, we enter a new decade of the 20’s- and The James is still standing. Keep reading to learn about how our historic building came to be.

The James first opened its doors in 1927, right as show business began to put down roots in Hollywood. Our building originally housed apartments, modeled after the 18th century Mediterranean Revival-style. This was a time for Los Angeles that was filled with opportunity, some even consider it the “golden era.” Another notable landmark opened that same year right down the road: Grauman’s Chinese Theater quickly became a staple for the Hollywood movie-goer. This same location would later be transformed into the iconic Hollywood walk of fame, and host prestigious events such as the Academy Awards. From Hollywood’s prominent start- to its thriving state in present day, The James has been there through it all.

With a central location, and easy access to all the excitement that Hollywood has to offer, it’s no wonder that so many entertainers have called The James their home over the years. The band KISS, Robert Vaughn, Clara Blandick, Aubrey Scotto, Addie McPhail, Ernest (Ernie) Adams, William Edmunds and Matthew Boulton have all resided at our beautiful property.

Join the rich history of The James with someone special this February. The James has hosted lovers for decades, and there’s no better time to have a staycation in Hollywood. With a thriving neighborhood full of shops and restaurants just moments away, it’s easy to celebrate this holiday with that person that matters most. Dine outdoors at one of the many gourmet eateries, pick up a thoughtful gift from a nearby storefront, or enjoy a quiet night at home with the luxe amenities provided to you at The James. One of the many perks of choosing boutique-style residences is that we offer fully equipped apartment homes, so your short-term getaway will feel just like home.
